Beach Cleanup Today Sunday

Posted on September 18th, 2011 in Beach Clean-up,Events by Kate Wade

Hi all,

Yes- the beach cleanup is still on today in case you are wondering about the weather. We will persist on rain or shine and hopefully this cloud cover will mean it isn’t sooooo hot!

Great prizes today if you can make it down and a t-shirt for the enthusiastic kids. Also a big sausage sizzle with drinks and beers.

Hope to see you there!

Kate

DB Green just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the participants who came down for the community beach cleanup Sunday the 18th. We had about 85 people there and here is a tally of some of the rubbish that we removed …

830 kg of rubbish in total
including 50 bags of recycling (mostly plastic bottles)
    900+ bottle caps
800+ pieces of cuttlery, cups & plates
38 bags full of polystyrene pieces
250+ pieces of foam netting from fruits
    500+ straws
    100 shoes
    53 childrens toys …

The beach near the north plaza was absolutely horrendous and in fact if we had had closer to 200 people cleaning we may have got all the rubbish removed, especially in the bushes & surrounding rocks area.

But the beach itself looked amazing & it was an incredible effort by all the hardworking people that turned up!

A big thank you to Gary from Hemingway’s who helped with logistics of getting everything to/from the beach and cooking our BBQ as well as donating a $500 raffle prize, it is great to have his & Hemingway’s support. Thanks also to the Novotel Citygate for donating a nights accommodation & buffet dinner vouchers. And also 22 North for a wine voucher. The lucky draw was held after the cleanup for the participants.

There will be another cleanup in the near future, I hope we can count on your support for that.

But for now – thanks to everyone who came & helped out. It was a really successful day
