Post lantern festival beach cleanup Tuesday morning

Well, we’ve had our little summer hiatus and it’s back to the monthly beach cleanups till Christmas. Except this month we’ve got 2! That’s right- we’re kicking off the season with our annual post lantern festival beach cleanup on the main Kai Tak beach, where we can witness what an evening of single use items, looks like the next day.

The lantern festival Monday night is a lovely event for families but it would be so much better if people bought down their beautiful REUSABLE lanterns rather than buying cheap gaudy plastic ones that are only ever intended to make it through one night. Have you got a lovely lantern you already own at home you can bring down this time? How about a pretty paper one? Even better hand made with recycled paper. Do you have some battery powered fairy lights to add interest to your plot of the beach or that can be used inside your paper lantern? We have found small reusable torches inside also very effective. Here a few websites that might inspire you….

In any case the next morning there is a fun beach cleanup. It is a great cleanup for young children as they love to pick up the left over glow sticks and barely used lanterns left on the beach. Starts at 9am on the main DB beach.Last years Post Lantern Festival great glowstick lineup

Bring your own water (in reusable bottles of course), sunscreen, insect repellent. And enjoy!
