Man Kok beach clean up Sunday March 22nd
Hello DB Green
Having had the opportunity of going out on a boat a few weeks ago and stopping off at Man Kok beach (see the map below) we knew we needed to come back and do some cleaning.
Once again Typhoon Hagiput has left a mark with the huge amount of Styrofoam and rubbish that is caught in the trees and on the shore line amongst the rocks. This is a naturally beautiful beach and a real joy to be on with nice sand, lots of shells, walking trails and rocks to explore. The locals have cleaned a lot of the debris away and the beach does get regular weekly cleaning but there is still so much trapped rubbish that needs removal.
We have teamed up with the Lantau Boat Club for what will be a really fun day out. We plan to have a BBQ and drinks after the clean up. LBC will assist in taking volunteers out to the beach but there is a limited number of people that can be accommodated. So we do need people to email confirmation on number of participants so that we can ensure we have enough space on the day. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis so please don’t leave it too late to email me on tlread@gmail.com
There will be 2 meeting points on the day. Volunteers are requested to be at either the Lantau Boat Club on the main DB beach (Tai Pak) or at the Kai To pier (near Nim Shue Wan and the Marina Club) no later than 9am on Sunday 22nd March. Email confirmation for participants will be sent a couple of days before the event to tell you where you will leave from.
You will need to bring suitable clothing and protective shoes and a refillable water bottle. We will provide rubbish bags, gloves, hand washing facilities and the after BBQ with water and canned drinks.
Non recyclable rubbish will be collected by the Marine Dept on the day.
If you know of anyone that may be able to assist with boat transport, please pass on this email. The more people we have to help, the bigger difference we can make!
Hope to see you there,
Tracey
