DB flea market

Sunday 21st October, afternoon: DB flea market.

Well what a great turn out for the DB Flea Market on Sunday!!! We had large amounts of donated goods and much thanks must go to the big contributors: Craig and Denise, Lisa and Mark, Anita (aka Imelda Marcos), Michelle and Chad, Gaelle and Sylvain, Tracey, Doris, Sophie and everyone who stopped into run a stall too Zara, Tracey, Trish, Denise, Jed, Doris, Michelle and son Chad, Salina and Gaelle. Thanks to Doris for doing the job I hate and standing in line for the next one!! (I hope I havenʼt missed anyone out- please let me know!) We had so much treasure that we ended up starting up another stall at a spot not being used. We made nearly $4000 and the leftovers is about 10 times what I started with- it was like the multiplying of the loaves! Some things will go in the Salvation Army bin as we just can’t store it all.

We still have some bigger items that Tracey is going to look into selling on the DB Forum. Weʼve had a thought that we might even look at having a garage sale so we donʼt have to store so much- probably in December would be good. Does anyone know of someone who has a garage we could commandeer? One of our members is donating a large amount of sample clothes which is fabulous and maybe we can have some members ‘events’ to view and purchase…… lots of ideas buzzing round my head..

Help choose a theme for our site!

Rather than going the route of designing a website from scratch or to use templates to create static pages that would need to be maintained by a technical person, I thought that an organization like DB Green may be able to use a blog effectively. The best software out there for maintaining blogs seems to be WordPress (I am partial to open-source solutions). Using the software opens us up to the potential of using one of the thousands of different themes which have been posted at: http://themes.wordpress.net. Please take a look and make some suggestions by clicking on comment to this message!

Next meeting: Wednesday the 14th of November 7:30 pm at Pacific Coffee.
All welcome.

And bonus for this month-
Catherine Touzard, an environmental journalist and author of ‘Going Green in Hong Kong’ will be popping in to talk about her book. She has wonderful tips on how to live a greener life and where to find those low impact products you’ve been looking for in Hong Kong!

Hello world!

It is still very early days for this new website, however after dicsussions with Kate, we have decided to try our hand at a website that will be in the format of a blog for a couple of different reasons:

  1. this will allow multiple users to be able to add their own content
  2. the blog format will keep the site changing and thereby keep visitors coming back! Mark this spot with your RSS Reader!
