10 Year Anniversary Beach Cleanup & Family Fun Day! SUNDAY AUG 20TH

Posted on August 15th, 2017 in Beach Clean-up,CAS Activities,Events by Tracey

For 10 years DB Green has been organising beach cleanups in Discovery Bay and we want to celebrate this milestone! Over the years thousands of people have helped remove tens of thousands of kilograms of mostly plastic rubbish from DB beaches, making a huge difference to the safety and the cleanliness of our natural playgrounds.

We want you to come and enjoy a day of action and fun on SUNDAY AUGUST 20TH. After a quick beach cleanup we will have some good old fashioned family fun building sandcastles with Castles Can Fly Hong Kong so don’t forget to bring your buckets and spades! There will be a competition (with great prizes) for the following 3 categories:
1. Best sandcastle using natural decorations
2. Best sandcastle using rubbish from the beach cleanup
3. Best family sandcastle

Schedule for the afternoon:
1-2pm: Beach cleanup
2pm: Sandcastle building competition
4.15-5pm: Prize giving and sausage sizzle

Refreshments will also be available throughout the event from the XTC Gelato cart! Enjoy an ice cream whilst learning more about plastic marine pollution and caring for our beaches as well as finding out ways you could volunteer for DB Green and in your community

RSVP on our FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE to let us know you are coming!

With thanks to LoveTogether DB for sponsoring this community event and the local DB businesses supporting with a prize PizzaExpress Hong Kong 香港愉景灣酒店 Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong and Hemingway’s DB

For the beach cleanup reusable cotton gloves will be supplied as will rubbish bags and buckets, water refills for your reusable water bottle (don’t forget to bring it!) and first aid. There will be basic handwashing facilities there too.

Please make sure you bring sun protection (hat/sunscreen), bug spray and wear closed toe shoes. You are very welcome to bring your own buckets and spades for making sandcastles! The more the better 🙂

Beach Cleanup Sunday May 17th North Plaza 1-4pm

Posted on May 13th, 2015 in Beach Clean-up,CAS Activities by Tracey

Hello!

Do you want to have a meaningful and fun day at the beach this weekend? Why not join us for a beach cleanup on Sunday afternoon on Sam Pak Wan at the North Plaza.

Bring sunscreen and insect repellent and your favourite hat/cap (and if you don’t have one of those we have one for you to keep!), some sturdy shoes (preferably that can handle getting dirty or wet). Bring your non disposable water bottle and we can refill it for you- we frown upon single use water bottles 🙁

That’s about it. We will supply reusable cotton gloves and garbage bags.

See you there,
Tracey, Kate, Dana, Angie and the DB Green Team

Saturday 1-4pm Beach Cleanup Nim Shue Wan

Posted on February 4th, 2015 in Beach Clean-up,CAS Activities,Events by Kate Wade

Hi DB Green,

Just a wee reminder this Saturday (7th Feb) we have our first beach cleanup of the year. Nim Shue Wan is the beach near where you take the ferry to Mui Wo or Peng Chau (if you’re new to DB). Head towards the Marina.

The DB Green beach cleanups are for individuals, families, community groups and school students to make a positive difference to the beaches and sea. Everyone is welcome! We will supply washable and reusable cotton gloves (you are also welcome to bring your own), trash bags (for landfill and for recycling), water bottle refills and first aid.

Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and shoes that protect your feet. Bring your own refillable water bottle please (not single use disposable water bottles- we hate those!), sunscreen and insect repellent. See you on the beach!

Hope to see you there!

Kate

2015 Beach Cleanup Schedule

The DB Green community beach cleanup program enables individuals, families, community groups and school students the ability to make a positive difference to the beaches and sea. Whether you want to participate because it is a fun, social and meaningful way to spend time with family and friends or you want a bit of purposeful exercise, or for students to help fulfil extracurricular requirements, we welcome your help and support.

DB Green supplies washable and reusable cotton gloves (you are also welcome to bring your own), trash bags (for landfill and for recycling), water bottle refills and first aid.

We ask that you wear appropriate clothing for the weather and shoes that protect your feet (there are hazards – particularly broken glass) and a full reusable water bottle.

If a school group would like to participate in one of the scheduled beach cleanups please contact dana (at) plasticfreeseas.org to arrange. *

If your company would like to participate in a beach cleanup please contact corporate (at) plasticfreeseas.org to arrange a tailor made program to suit your needs. *

Looking forward to seeing you on the beaches in 2015!
Kate, Angie, Dana & Tracey

PS If you can’t make these dates you can always go to a beach anytime that suits you and do a mini clean – every effort counts!

* when using the above email addresses, please replace the (at) with @ The above is written to avoid spam being sent to these email addresses. We have enough rubbish to get rid of from the beaches, we don’t need it filling our inboxes too!

The Discovery Bay Flea market is on this Sunday from 12-5pm. As always DB Green will have a stall near the post office where you can bring down donated goods for us to sell. The money raised from the flea markets helps to offset our costs for tree planting which will be starting straight after the spring rains.

As well as donated goods we are in need of volunteers to help us out please. Even an hr or 2 will make a big difference.

We will be in the plaza from 10am accepting goods and setting up. Hope to see some familiar and some new faces!
